In the 1980s, the artificial Lake of Farka was built, which is one of the largest lakes in Albania and is used for irrigation. The lake is located in the southern and southwestern part of the city of Tirana. The land around the Farka Lake covers an area of 11,000 m2 and a length of 760 linear meters. This area stands out for its biodiversity and attractive hilly landscape as well as natural heritage. Part of this heritage are objects, landscapes, ecosystems, special habitats, rare, relics, endemic or endangered species. As such, they have great ecological, scientific, cultural, didactic and touristic importance. Farka Lake is positioned very close to the national road, which makes it easily accessible for visitors. With an extension of 75 hectares of clean water surface, the basin is rich in terms of biodiversity, becoming the habitat of several autochthonous species of fish such as carp, bream and catfish. The lake is characterized by clean, clear waters, without urban waste or reeds and underwater grasses. Lake Farka is the next destination for foreign tourists passionate about the sport of kayaking. Several tour operators offer the service of guides for the enthusiasts of this sport.
