GORICA NEIGHBORHOOD

The ensemble of the "Gorica" neighborhood unfolds in the lowest part of a hilly height, which is crowned at the top with a fortification from the Antiquity period. It is separated from the rest of the city by the Osum River, and until recently, the only way of communication was through the Gorica Bridge. According to Celebi, in the c. The 17th quarter had 200 houses, while today's architectural views of the houses, like the other two quarters, have undergone deep reconstructions after the devastating earthquake of 1851. Some houses and gates, on their fronts, bear precisely the dating of this reconstruction period, that is, of the second half of the century. XIX. The relief appears divided in the upper belt of the neighborhood, which, due to its height, is mainly configured with small and medium-sized apartments that are often quite close to each other. Meanwhile, the part of the lower belt, near the river, presents a tru-all where the buildings have a more or less free placement. In this area there are several large dwellings, mostly of the gazebo type, which seem to belong to the periods of the century. XVIII.
