The memorial is dedicated to Mujo Ulqinak (1896-1939), “Hero of the People”, one of the first fighters of the armed resistance against the Italian fascist occupation on April 7, 1939. The memorial was created by the “Sculptor of the People” Kristaq Rama. Mujo Ulqinaku was born in the city of Ulqin in the family of a sailor. He had the rank of non-commissioned officer in the navy department in Durrës. He was positioned on the front line of the fight from the first hours of the Italian fascist occupation. Mujo Ulqinaku and his comrades-in-arms, with their endurance and patriotism, showed unparalleled bravery.
