ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL RESURRECTION OF CHRIST TIRANA

Ringjallja e Krishtit Cathedral is the third largest Orthodox Cathedral in the Balkans. It was officially opened on June 24, 2012, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the revival of the Albanian Orthodox Church and the election of Archbishop Anastas Janullatos. The Cathedral complex includes the following buildings: the cathedral, the chapel of the Nativity, the bell tower, the residence of the Holy Synod, the cultural center, a library, two other chapels and a small museum. The dome of the cathedral is 32.2 m high, with the bell tower reaching 46 meters. The bell is composed of four Easter candles that symbolize the four Evangelists who announced the Resurrection. These join together around the central axis of the stairs. The spiral staircase leads to two open floors with 16 bells each. Above the bell are 4 clocks from each face of the tower. The two underground levels below the Cathedral Church were used to fulfill the Church’s need for a Cultural and Conference Centre. The center has a hall with a capacity of 500-850 people, which can be used to host lectures, performances and concerts. Auxiliary wings and backstage allow this hall to be used as a theater as well. On the east side of the hall is a small museum, a lecture hall, a banqueting enclosure and an area for exhibitions and childrens activities. To the right of the grand marble staircase leading to the church’s cathedral there is ample space for a bookshop and a shop of ecclesiastical items. Meanwhile, to the left of the stairs are two rooms where youth groups and the faithful can gather after church services. To the north, in front of the Conference and Culture Center there is a small outdoor amphitheater for use during the summer months.
