RINIA PARK

“Rinia Park” is the central public park of the capital, conceived in 1931 and built in 1949, covering an area of 29.81 ha. Several project variants were drawn up for the center of Tirana, which, regardless of the changes they underwent until the realization, had the axis of the boulevard where all the streets of the city intersected, a place that at that time was an empty space. The first project started in 1923, but the most successful variant, in line with King Zog’s ambitions to make Tirana a modern European city, dates back to 1931 and bears the signature of the Italian architects Brasini and De Fausto. During the first forty years, this park was seen as a relatively free space for the youth of Tirana, as well as a green area for families and children. Later, a cafe and restaurant complex was built there, ironically calling it “Taiwan”. Today, Rinia Park has an area of 29.81 ha with green spaces, and a different relief on certain surfaces, which serves not only as an acoustic wall, but also encourages physical activities for children. In addition to a special space dedicated to those who want to play with their four-legged friends, mini-squares have been created for children and the elderly.
