The market square of the Byzantine period was built in the traditional center of ancient Dyrrah. It had a central position in relation to the great public and religious buildings of the Byzantine period. Its architectural appearance proves the function of an open, circular market square with portico. In the center of the market square there is a podium and a well, on a bed of marble tiles that cover the floor up to the colonnade with a perimeter of 40m. Service facilities were built around this radial-shaped portico. The construction technique, the material used and the cultural layer date this monument as contemporary with the public constructions of the emperors Anastas and Justinian at the beginning of the century.
