Saint Jovan Vladimir, the Serbian king, as written in the church calendar published by the Serbian Orthodox Church, is celebrated on June 4 (May 22 according to the old calendar). He grew up in a family with noble roots of the Serbian rulers who administered the principalities in Zahumlje and Prevalitane (Duklja or Zeta). Vladimir inherited at the end of the 10th century the administration over the lands of his father and uncle. He had his throne in Krajina, near Lake Shkodra, at the church of the Holy Mary.
